Mother’s Table, 1992
Oil on canvas, 25 x 19
Collection of Patricia Jobe Pierce

Mother’s Table is a symbolic still life depicting the eternal life of his mother, through faith in Jesus Christ. The table belonged to his parents. The apples are symbolic of Christ, the new Adam, who took her sin upon Himself. The red skin, symbol of Christ’s blood, surrounds the white center, symbol of the purity of the saints in Christ. One is cut, showing that He suffered the penalty for her sin. The flowers are red, symbolizing the blood of Christ that was shed for the remission of her sin, and yellow, symbolic of His glorious resurrection from the dead, which is the assurance of her own resurrection. His mother is represented by the white flower, symbolizing the purity of Christ which is imputed to her by faith.
